ANNOUNCING “LA FE CATOLICA”

A NEW SPANISH-LANGUAGE STUDY

OF THE CATHOLIC FAITH

Dismas Ministry is pleased to announce the publication of its study of the Catholic faith for Spanish-speaking Catholics called: “LA FE CATOLICA–La Enseñanza de los Apóstoles” (The Catholic Faith–The Teaching of the Apostles).

This unique Spanish-language resource has been designed for use by individuals at home or by small faith groups. It provides a thorough understanding of the Catholic tradition for the average person who does not have a background in theology or scripture, but would like to brush up on their Catholic faith, clear up their own misconceptions and be able to defend their faith when challenged by fundamentalists. It is written in easy to understand format and includes abundant references to the Bible. All three parts of the book have been published with ecclesiastical permission. The entire publication is dedicated to Our Lady of Good Help.

The study covers the essentials of the Catholic faith in three parts:  Part 1 - Ther Creed, Part 2 - the Sacraments and Part 3 - Christian Morality. Each section ends with a review that provides questions in a self-testing format. Separate answer sheets are provided for self-correction. The 3-part book is available for a suggested donation of $14.95 plus $3 for shipping. The donation supports Dismas Ministry’s outreach by providing Spanish Bibles for Catholics in prison.

• Area of Service - As of January 1, 2011, the number of states Dismas Ministry currently includes in its area of service is 43. This includes the most recent state to be added in 2010, Connecticut.  This same area encompasses 116 dioceses. The total number of jails and prisons as of January 1, 2011 is 735.

• Pray Always: A Catholic Study of Prayer for Inmates – This new correspondence course is being developed by Dismas Ministry for inmates, and is well on its way to completion. As part of the three-book series, Part 1: Prayer in the Old Testament and Part 2: Prayer in the New Testament have been completed. Part 3: Prayer in the Catholic Tradition will be completed by the end of 2011. This course, like the Bible and faith study courses Dismas Ministry now provides, will be free to inmates.

• I Am Beautiful A Project for Women Survivors of Abuse - After more than a year of gathering the precious contributions of art and writings from women in the 71 women’s prisons across the U.S, the "I Am Beautiful" project completed a book by the same name, to benefit women in prison who have experienced abuse at some point in their lives. This special resource gives survivors the opportunity to support other women in prison who have experienced abuse. Free copies were distributed to the chaplains of all 71 women’s prisons in December of 2010. Copies are available to the public for a suggested donation of $12. Click here for more information.

• Catholic Correctional Ministry Training Resource – Dismas Ministry has published a special resource for Catholic jail or prison ministry. It provides practical information and advice for those who are training others or for those who are on their own but need to prepare themselves for outreach to inmates. Copies are available for a suggested donation of $12.
