Service Projects

 

A major aspect of Dismas Ministry’s mission is to serve the spiritual needs of Catholic inmates. This service involves the distribution of free Bibles, a unique prayer book for and by inmates, as well as scripture and faith study materials. Each of these items is intended to support the faith-based rehabilitation of inmates’ during their time behind bars, as well as lay the foundation for a rich spiritual life that will serve them whether they remain behind bars or are released once their sentence is completed.

 

The materials listed below are distributed without cost by Dismas Ministry to Catholic inmates who request them, as well as to the prison chaplains and ministry coordinators that serve them in areas currently designated for service. These areas are chosen by Dismas Ministry’s board of directors according to the ministry’s annual budget. Please see the “Dismas Ministry Service Map” for the areas. For chaplains and ministry coordinators located outside the current areas of service who wish to request these materials regardless, they may obtain them by sending a suggested donation:

 

• New American Catholic Bible (suggested donation $3.50)

 

• Santa Biblia: Version Popular (suggested donation $3.50)

 

• Pray in the Spirit Catholic: Prayers for Inmates (Includes all the common Catholic prayers, the Mass, benediction, rosary, stations of the cross and more, as well as prayers and art contributed by inmates. This pocket-sized booklet also includes lives of the saints who have been in prison (suggested donation, $1.25).

 

• Oren en Espíritu: Oraciones Católicas para los Prisoneros (This prayer book has the same description as the English version Pray in the Spirit (suggested donation, $1.25)

 

• GOD WITH US: A Catholic Bible Study for Inmates: A 3-part correspondence course designed especially for inmates. This resource may be used for individual or group study. Inmates earn a certificate of completion after finishing each part of the study. (Suggested donation $2.50)
